The Truth About Bar Shampoo + Conditioner

I love going in to the Lush store whenever I go to the mall. And if you have read some of my other posts you probably know that I am really into using products with safe ingredients. I have found lotions and soaps that I love, and I really wanted to find hair products with more natural ingredients.
I told the sales girl at Lush about my search for new shampoo and conditioner and she told me about their bar products.

How cool is that?! These bars are supposed to last 80-100 washes and fit in the palm of your hand. So for someone who often takes showers at the gym these compact, and light weight bars of shampoo and conditioner are perfect. No more exploding, heavy bottles that take up all the space in your shower. And if you travel these bars are so convenient.

And they are made mostly of fresh ingredients and smell good too.
The reason I say mostly is because Lush products are not 100% natural or organic. They try to use as many fresh ingredients as possible. Some ingredients are man made. But 73% of Lush products don't have preservatives.
If you are really concerned about ingredients, on the Lush Cosmetics website every products has it's ingredients listed. Ingredients in green are natural and ingredients that are not are man made. You can click on every ingredient and learn more about its history and how Lush uses it.
Now back to the shampoo and conditioner bars. As convient as they are, do they work?

I have been using these bars for a little over a month. I wanted really smooth and shiny hair and the Seanik Shampoo and BIG Conditioner were recommended to me. Both bars have sea salt in them and they totally dried out my hair. But I didn't lose hope. I went back and got two new bars. This time I asked for really hydrating products. I bought Jason and the Argan Oil Shampoo and Sugar Daddy-O Conditioner. I found these bars to work much better.
The shampoo bars soap up really well. You just move the bar in circles on your hair and it gets a nice lather. I really like the Jason and the Argan Oil Shampoo and will continue to use it!

I am not so thrilled with the conditioner bar. It is difficult to lather all your hair with a bar. When using traditional conditioner you are able to smooth it out and get the roots.
The best way to use the bar is to run it on top of your hair and underneath it. Then rub the bar in your hand and use your fingers to get some conditioner to your roots.
The conditioner did work in detangling my hair. However, once my hair dried I felt like their was a residue in my hair. It just wasn't super smooth.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday I used my mom's bottled conditioner and right away I could tell my hair was softer.
So I don't think I will use the conditioner bar. I really love the shampoo bar and I'm thinking of pairing that with some leave in conditioner while I hunt for a better conditioner that has natural ingredients. If you have any suggestions on conditioners that you love I would love to hear them!
